Every now and then, users need help with their tasks. There are a couple of ways to assist them. You can either use a question mark icon or an info icon. Don’t confuse the two because they carry different affordances.
Question Mark Icon
When users need help, a question mark icon represents their state of confusion. Clicking it should take users to another screen where they can access help documentation. This help documentation is a support page dedicated to troubleshooting a particular problem. It allows users to get more detailed assistance.
Info Icon
Users don’t always need help documentation to complete a task. Sometimes they only need more info about a particular aspect. In this case, use an info icon to display a snippet of helpful text without taking users off their current screen. You can place it inline with elements to provide info specific to it.
